The Alumni Game, A Novel By John E. Verardo Jr.
John Walcott sits up from the couch, slowly fighting gravity.
He is a 40 year old man, a husband and a father, earning a mid-level income as a mid-level manager for a mid-sized company.
As a middle-aged man, he finds himself "stuck in the middle."
As the coaches approach the group, Benny says,
" Seems like their Marine Corps style of coaching was out of step with today's athletes."
"Yeah, but we're yesterday's athletes?" Billy says with a worried look on his face.
John Emilio Verardo Jr., author of Confessions of a 2nd String Middie now offers us his latest work, The Alumni Game.
Here we meet John Walcott; husband, father, friend and former athlete on a journey, struggling to resist the tentacles of middle age as he envisions seeking one more goal. While on this journey, he tries to reconcile this desire to prove himself on the playing field one last time with his everyday responsibilities to his friends and family.
Everyone feels they have one more goal in their life. The main character in The Alumni Game has to find out what goal he needs to accomplish. In his journey, he finds out who and what are most important to him.
I hope you enjoy his journey and reflect on your own journey.
